Pallets!

The one thing (other than extra hours in the day) we've needed ever since we got our plot was some timber. Free timber to be exact since that's the allotmenting way and money, unfortunately, doesn't grow on trees. So, imagine the excitement at Growing Our Own towers this week when a friend of ours who sells Spa Pools emailed to say he had some pallets for us if we could find a use for them.

A couple of days later and this was awaiting us when we came home from work...

A few hours and a lot of effort with hammer and crowbar later we have a much more manageable pile of wood all ready for make everything from compost bins to raised beds. While digging and preparing the remaining beds not to mention sowing seeds will take priority over the far less urgent carpentry but once that’s all done in the next couple of weeks expect to see some first attempts at construction.

So thanks Ed, and if anyone wants a Spa Pool then Monarch Spas is the place to go...

Those are the biggest, best pallets I've ever seen! Our local newspaper gives them out for free but they are rather puny.

Nice bit of re-use guys.

Lucky you! I am hunting for pallets to build a shed out of, so far I have 4... A great way to re-use pallets though!

Spa? I do wish!!!! You are very jammy to have those pallets - I picked up three one day (honestly, the sign did say 'please take') on my way from uni, but found that I couldn't take them apart.

So I have three slightly differing sized pallets to use for my extra mini compost heap. Ah well, not everything useful here can be pretty too...

@ Amy - I know, they're HUGE aren't they! I guess they use them for transporting the Spa pools so they have to be a bit bigger than normal. There's another 4 waiting for us when we've used these too... :)

@ Lucy - Taking them apparts was... fun... if that's the word. I imagine the smaller ones are harder in the sense that the wood is thinner and more likely to split. I didn't get these two appart without breaking a few planks along the way.

Lucky you! Can't wait to see what you turn them into.

Have you tried freecycle? You can get LOADS of free stuff on there? Sure pallettes would come up. Have to admit to a bit of pallette envy...

Blimey! Pallet-envy here too. That'd finish off my veg beds in no time! We tried taking some standard pallets apart for the purpose but it was impossible!

Hey CoffeeAndApplePie, thanks for stopping by. :)
I do keep an eye on freecycle but not seen any timber of use so far. Although these were free too, and delivered to the door so I think they wre probably even better lol

I'll stop now to help ease pallet envy... ;)
